Newport Philharmonic Choir has received an emergency grant from Ty Cerdd to help us restart choir rehearsals and hopefully concerts, when Welsh Government Covid restrictions allow.
Ty Cerdd have been working with the Arts Council of Wales and Welsh Government to support community music making, which has been so badly hit by the Pandemic and the restrictions that have had to be put in place.
The fund was targeted at community based choirs and music groups and broken down into three areas, Rescue, Resource and Restart. Newport Philharmonic Choir applied for a Restart grant to help with the cost of making rehearsals Covid secure.
The choir’s chairman David Moses said ‘We are so grateful to Ty Cerdd, the Arts Council of Wales and the Welsh Government for making these grants available. As with so many areas of the community, the choir has had no income for the last year. The cost of protecting our members, many of whom are in high risk groups, when we return to rehearsals was going to be a further burden on our finances. This grant will ensure we are able to protect or members when we are allowed to start rehearsals.
